My son is 3.5 yrs and his teeth has cavity in incisors and canines?

My son is 3.5 yrs , has cavity in incisors and canines and is increasing ...He is autistic....So I am really afraid to take him to a dentist......when will his teeth fall and new will come and will those teeth be good......Do I need to wait till then .Please help

Adult incisors erupt around 6-8 yrs of age, the cuspids erupt around 11-12 yrs of age. Your son is going to need these teeth for quite a while so getting in to a dentist while these cavities are small is vital. Autistic children do pose a special attention and you should ask your son's doctor or someone you trust on who to take him to. A Pediatric Dentist would be my first choice. Feel free to call the Pediatric Dentist(s) in your area, inform them of your situation, if they put you at ease over the phone, and can accommodate you, you can at least set up a consult and discuss treatment options. If you need a second opinion, that's okay too, but get your son in somewhere before these teeth start to hurt him.

Reply:my son has lots of cavities also...he is 4 and wound up having 2 silver caps on his molars and 6 additional fillings, he goes for his last 2 tomorrow. He received the nitrous oxide this time, but when i took him to the dentist the first time (he was 2 almost 3) they put him to sleep with a liquid medication you drink. That might be the answer for your son. They told me this work now must be done because if i continued to let it go he would need child's root canals. They don't start losing their teeth until 6 or 7....i believe that's what our dentist told me...they wont get all their permanent teeth until about age 12. Also if you let the teeth decay it could do damage to his gums and permanent teeth.
Reply:They could look at it and see how deep the cavity appears. If it's not too deep, regular brushing could keep it from getting too bad before the tooth falls out. However, the decay could affect the new teeth coming in later.





You might consider taking him somewhere that uses nitricoxide and have a full checkup clean and decay removal.
