I have a light brown spot on one of my front teeth(canine i think they call it)?

And it is slightly depressed in. I%26#039;m assuming it%26#039;s a cavity. It is not bothered at all by food, cold or hot. If I press on it though, it is sore. My dentist can not get me in for about 3 weeks. What can I do in the meantime to prevent it from getting worse? And what are the chances, if it is a cavity, of it spreading to the root in the meantime?

3 weeks is not enough time for it to turn into a root canal. You should be fine just keep it clean.
Reply:Well, brush and floss at least two times a day, and definately get yourself some flouride rinse. I prefer ACT. The flouride will help keep the surrounding tooth from becoming decayed. Just dont eat a lot of sugars and if you do, brush right afterwards. Good Luck!
Reply:Cavities grow Veeeeerrrrryyyy sloooooowwwllllly. 3 weeks is not enough time to see any difference; even 3 months won%26#039;t matter. Don%26#039;t sweat it; just keep brushing and flossing.
Reply:You can get a flouride rinse or a paste (we suggest GelKam) to try to strengthen the surrounding enamel. You have to ask the pharmacist for GelKam though you don%26#039;t need a prescription. Other than that just bruss and floss regularly.
Reply:Mine was like that and I just got it and the one behind it drilled and filled at the same sitting- there is little you can do other than to keep food out of it, and use ACT mouthwash, my dentist told me it coats the teeth with floride and makes teeth more protective to sensativity.

I have not been to the dentist in so many years, I avoid going at all cost BECAUSE of the cost really but I hate going too-

Never had a cavity there in any tooth, always been on the biting surface like my molars- after having this done today, and this cavity was getting pretty big, a discolored almost hole- I asked him if it was bad and he said %26quot;no, not at all%26quot; I was shocked! It looked bad to me! And to my surprise it took no time at all to fix and I went home, I was only there 1/2 hour to have my canine and the tooth behind that done, and both teeth had more than 2 cavities in them- canine had bite surface, inner and outer surface, the other had 4 surfaces.

Just keep it clean and free from food laying in there that is what caused it in the first place- or at least it did with me.
