Whenever I take a sip of somthing my right canine tooth really hurts. What is wrong and what should I do?

I have these sensitive teeth sometimes, too. It's a possibility that the tooth covering could be wearing thin, thus making it sensitive. Or it could be something else... To make sure, I'd talk to the dentist.

I bet you have a cavity. When you drink something, it is probably aggravating a nerve. I would go see a dentist.
Reply:Sounds like ther's an exposed nerve and you should get a filling.
Reply:Sounds like you have a problem with the nerve in that tooth. See a dentist.
Reply:'Sounds like maybe a cavity or an exposed nerve. I would get to a dentist asap.
Reply:sounds like a cavity to me. Go to a dentist.
Reply:Is it when you drink something cold or hot? If so try sensodyne toothpaste. It works everytime.
Reply:It could be a cavity or maybe gum disease is occurring in that area. Look at the tooth and that gum area in a mirror. If it really bugs you, you need to see a dentist.
Reply:sounds like you have an exposed nerve, best to go to the dentist and not prolong it the longer you wait the more damage it will do to your tooth
Reply:Do you have cavity in it? Is it broken? You have a nerve that is exposed it sounds like. If it does not hurt when cold is not present then see your dentist soon. If it hurts all of the time you can go to the drug store and get some oil of cloves that can be placed on the opening (Cavity) and that will give you temporary relief. But, see your dentist soon.
Reply:sounds like a cavity to me. Tell your dentist.
Reply:you probably have a cavity
Reply:actually there could be several causes of the sensitivity,

yes a cavity could cause sensitivity, but also it could be that some of your enamel has worn away, or you might have a small crack in your tooth.

if it is senstive to cold and sweet it could be one of the above, and your nerve probably isn't exposed.

If you had a look at the layers that make up your tooth, you have a thin shell of enamel on the outside then the next layer is called dentin which is very porous

anything sweet or cold that touches dentin will be transfered through the little pores in it to the nerve and it will make your tooth quite sensitive.

So anything that exposes dentine, such as the enamel layer wearing away from brushing too hard, acidic erosion from stuff like coke and lemon juice, exposure of dentine by decay, or fillings which allow fluid to leak to the dentine layer, will cause sensitivity.

if your nerve was actually exposed your tooth would most likely die and you would have a different sort of pain.

if it is more sensitive to hot mainly, then it could be infection but not necessarily.

get a dentist to have a look at it, but if its just a bit worn, sensodyne will probably help.
