Impacted Canine Tooth Exposure Anesthetic?

I am really nervous about needles. My oral surgeon has IV and Novacain anesthetics. How painful is the exposure. Should I use the general IV anesthetic or novacain.

Impacted Canine Tooth Exposure Anesthetic?
You will be given both local anesthetic and IV sedation by your oral surgeon. You really have nothing to worry about, this is a common procedure. It's also a painless procedure, since you will be asleep during the whole thing. I won't say it's completely painless after wards although most patients say they were only mildly sore. You will be given a prescription medication that will greatly reduce any pain you may have. Just be sure to use the warm salt water rinses and follow all instructions given by your OS.

Additional information: Most Dentist and OS will offer patients with anxiety an oral pre-medication, they may offer or you can request the use of N2O along with either the general anesthetic or local. With the general anesthetic you will be groggy for awhile after the procedure. With N20 and local you will be awake and conscious of your surroundings having a light headed or floating sensation through out the procedure. After completion and before you leave, you will be given oxygen to breathe for several minutes to return you to a normal state but the surgical area will remain numb for approximately one or two hours. Depending on how well you handle dental work being preformed should be the deciding factor as to which type of anesthesia to request. Either way your dentist will advise you, and will take excellent care of you, making sure that you have a pain free experience with this procedure. I hope I’ve been of some help in answering your question. Good luck with your pending procedure.
Reply:Go the novocain way

I don't know if I can help you, but here goes. To find out everything you need to know about orthognathic (jaw correction) surgery, wisdom teeth surgery, implant dentistry, TMJ problems and anything really to do with facial and jaw surgery generally, you should go to www.dentalimplantsaustralia.com. The site is an Australian one, and deals with oral and maxillofacial surgery, and also with dentistry and orthodontics. Good luck! I hope that helps you.
