ok so i have like 6 baby teeth and im 14 :/
i hate it.. but anyways.
im getting "shark teeth" with 2 of my teeth..
one is a molar and its pushed the baby one completly on its side pointing towards the inside of my mouth, but i cant get it out..
and the other is my right canine and the baby one isnt very loose but the adult one is kinda big...
i really want to get my braces on as soon as possible so i can get them off fast. i dont want them in my senior pictures and i dont know how long ill have to have my braces on... im in 9th grade.
so please give me a way to get my teeth out. the loose and not the loose.. but mainly the "shark" ones.
please a way besides the dentist if you can, thats going to be very expensive and the braces are already going to cost a bunch..

You have to go to a dentist. The pain from pulling them by yourself could be enough to make you faint, plus you could get an infection and end up dying from it. Also, if you damage the bone in your jaw by trying to pull them yourself, you could end up disfigured and your teeth would look even worse. For gosh sakes go to the dentist. This isn't something you can do yourself girlfriend. TALK TO YOUR PARENTS!!!
Reply:Well if they aren't loosening up on their own and coming out, you *may* need the dentist to remove them. If you go in for cleanings, perhaps at the next appointment you can talk to them about it and ask if they have any suggestions, or find out at that time if it would need to be done by them.
I've had all four wisdom teeth out, the baby teeth, since they don't have the deep roots that adult teeth have, probably shouldn't be difficult at all in comparison.

Teeth Surgery Help Please!?
What is it called when some of your teeth are horizontal and won't come in without surgery? I have that on my 2 top pointy teeth, and have to have surgery to bring them down and stuff. I was just wondering if anyone has had this procedure done and could talk to me about it. I already had one surgery for extractions [9, including 3 adult teeth] and am scared to have one more. I will be asleep in the hosipital for this one[ bad expierance last time] and was just wondering what i should expect. Any answers helpful!! Thank You!!

How long until your preemie started cuting teeth?
My daughter was born at 35 weeks gestation and she is almost 4 months old and she is already cutting teeth. The unusual part is that it is an upper right canine and babies don't usually get those until 21 months old or so. Has anyone else had this happen? She is normal all but her feeding tube no facial disfigurement. No other teeth. AND yes this one can be seen popping through the gums.

I am getting two crowns made due to having a root canal but I have a small gap between the canine and?
bicuspid. the first premolar and the 2nd one are the ones that need crowns. do you think that they will make the teeth bigger to where it closes the gap between the canine and 1st premolar? thank you

Occasionally, the canine will also need to be enlarged with a composite filling being placed distally to "take up" some of the "gap" or space so the bi won't look too large by its self making it look fake. But in any case, the gap can definitely be closed giving these teeth a more normal appearance or natural size.
Be sure to tell your dentist before he prepares the tooth so adjustments can be made to accommodate the widening of the crown, he may wish to prep the tooth differently to accommodate the increased mesial size. He may already be planning to close the gap, if it was the cause of the present root canal. Any "gaps" that cause a potential food packing area or tissue irritant due to food being caught need extra care with brushing, using a proxy brush and flossing. In most cases these teeth should be considered for a crown early to close the area before they cause a problem.
Some patients are partial to their "gaps" and want to keep them; they are usually the front centrals though. I’m sure you aren’t one of them. Hope I've been of some help and good luck with your pending procedure.
Additional information: No, the lab won't close the gap unless your dentist wrote the script requesting it to be done. You need to call your dentist so he can check with the lab. When I used to wear braces, my teeth got loose and anything that touched my mouth hurt (including water). Since I could not bear the pain, I went back to the dentist and told him to loose them up. What could cause an adult male dogs teeth to fall out/wear off?
We found a dog today who looks pretty young. His other teeth are ok, but his front teeth, top and bottom between the canines look like some have fallen out and it almost looks like someone took a grinder to them--What could have caused this? We don't want to put up signs to find his family if he's being abused-is there any kind of disorder or anything he could be doing himself to literally wear his teeth off??

Please take him into your veterinarian as soon as possible for a thorough check up. I do not know of any condition that would cause the incisors to wear down that way under normal circumstances... and depending on how far down they are, it must be excruciating to the dog.
Many dogs and cats do develop periodontal disease which can cause teeth to become loose, cracked, and even fall out, but it is the premolars and molars who are affected first. Dogs chew with their back teeth, not the incisors between the canines, so I highly doubt this is simply from chewing on toys.
A thorough physical exam will help to ditermine if this is an abuse case. Ask for a fecal exam, dental, and skin check as well. This will help to detirmine if the dog has internal parasites like worms, or external parasites like mites and lice which are common in dogs who have been neglected. A blood test may help to pinpoint any diseases, but precautionary vaccinations would be best to have done.
If this turns out to be an abuse case or case of neglect, I would probably keep the dog or find it a good home after a two week period, if no signs or notices for a lost dog are put up by the owners. If abuse is ruled out by the vet, ask your vet and other local veterinarians to put up flyers in their offices, and contact local humane groups and animal control to alert them to the fact you've taken in a lost dog and if the owner should call to please direct him or her to you.
If you want to put up flyers, i suggest leaving details such as a photograph, or description out so the person claiming to be the rightful owner can describe him to you and give you details that prove his or her identity to be true.

Reply:Possibly from chewing a crate or fence. Many puppymill dogs grind their front teeth down to nubs on their crates, trying to gnaw their way out.
If he's not a mill dog my guess he has just tried (and probably managed) to chew his way out of a crate.
If you don't want to put up signs at least check the "lost" column in the local paper; or put an ad that says "found dog" and ask for a description of the dog and maybe they will tell you about the teeth, volunteer why they are that way.
Reply:well I don't belive that anything besides abuse could lead to that because i don't think that dogs grind their teeth but just to be safe i would take him to the vet straight away so he could be looked at to be sure that he doesn't lose any more teeth.

He could of been trying to find food, chewing of anything really hard to get it ... steel, bone, rock
Try going back to where he was and look for any clues to see what might of happened. If you don't find anything wrong, hang up signs that you found a dog, and look in the ads under lost pets.
Reply:Some pets that have separation anxiety or chew on their cage will develop large abrasive wear facets on the crown of the tooth (blue arrow). This greatly weakens the tooth making it prone to fracture. A three-quarter crown can protect the tooth from further damage and likely fracture.
Reply:I would take him to a vet just to see what they think about the teeth. Maybe they did fall out , but if it looks like they had a grinder taken to them that's weird. I would have said maybe a vet took them out but if they are partially there yet like grinded away that would raise a red flag for me too. If the vet see's no foul play like the owners could have taken a grinder to them then put up flyers and get the dog back to the owner but if you have a gut feeling I would keep him or take him to a local no kill shelter.
Reply:We had a dog whose teeth wore flat from paying with tennis balls so much. Is it possible that this pooch likes to play tug? Rough ropes might wear his teeth down. It's also possible that he chewed his way out of somewhere if he's running free. Could you have a vet look at him to be sure?
Reply:He may have chewed him self free from a bad situation that is why his teeth may have fallen out and worn down.
Reply:This can be cause by his chewing on something very hard like a chain, or on a cage or even on the links of a fence. Or he could just be loosing his puppy teeth and he will be getting in his adult teeth soon. If he is loosing his puppy teeth then he's about 5 to 6 months old.
Reply:It could be just from genetics. More likely he is a chewer. Whether it was chewing out of enclosure or just his toys. I highly doubt it is abuse.
You should take him to a vet to have him scanned to see if he has a microchip implanted, then put up signs and let the humane society know you have him. I'm sure his family misses him!

Reply:If the dog is skinny,than he or she was prob. chewing on anything that smelled good,old bones,dirt where something was spilled ,etc.but hard toys like cow hocks will do the same.

If this turns out to be an abuse case or case of neglect, I would probably keep the dog or find it a good home after a two week period, if no signs or notices for a lost dog are put up by the owners. If abuse is ruled out by the vet, ask your vet and other local veterinarians to put up flyers in their offices, and contact local humane groups and animal control to alert them to the fact you've taken in a lost dog and if the owner should call to please direct him or her to you.
If you want to put up flyers, i suggest leaving details such as a photograph, or description out so the person claiming to be the rightful owner can describe him to you and give you details that prove his or her identity to be true.

Reply:Possibly from chewing a crate or fence. Many puppymill dogs grind their front teeth down to nubs on their crates, trying to gnaw their way out.
If he's not a mill dog my guess he has just tried (and probably managed) to chew his way out of a crate.
If you don't want to put up signs at least check the "lost" column in the local paper; or put an ad that says "found dog" and ask for a description of the dog and maybe they will tell you about the teeth, volunteer why they are that way.
Reply:well I don't belive that anything besides abuse could lead to that because i don't think that dogs grind their teeth but just to be safe i would take him to the vet straight away so he could be looked at to be sure that he doesn't lose any more teeth.

Try going back to where he was and look for any clues to see what might of happened. If you don't find anything wrong, hang up signs that you found a dog, and look in the ads under lost pets.
Reply:Some pets that have separation anxiety or chew on their cage will develop large abrasive wear facets on the crown of the tooth (blue arrow). This greatly weakens the tooth making it prone to fracture. A three-quarter crown can protect the tooth from further damage and likely fracture.
Reply:I would take him to a vet just to see what they think about the teeth. Maybe they did fall out , but if it looks like they had a grinder taken to them that's weird. I would have said maybe a vet took them out but if they are partially there yet like grinded away that would raise a red flag for me too. If the vet see's no foul play like the owners could have taken a grinder to them then put up flyers and get the dog back to the owner but if you have a gut feeling I would keep him or take him to a local no kill shelter.
Reply:We had a dog whose teeth wore flat from paying with tennis balls so much. Is it possible that this pooch likes to play tug? Rough ropes might wear his teeth down. It's also possible that he chewed his way out of somewhere if he's running free. Could you have a vet look at him to be sure?

Reply:This can be cause by his chewing on something very hard like a chain, or on a cage or even on the links of a fence. Or he could just be loosing his puppy teeth and he will be getting in his adult teeth soon. If he is loosing his puppy teeth then he's about 5 to 6 months old.
Reply:It could be just from genetics. More likely he is a chewer. Whether it was chewing out of enclosure or just his toys. I highly doubt it is abuse.
You should take him to a vet to have him scanned to see if he has a microchip implanted, then put up signs and let the humane society know you have him. I'm sure his family misses him!

Can misaligned teeth cause problems in a cat?
Hello. My cat is seven months old. When my other cats were shedding their milk teeth, their adult teeth grew in immediately afterwards and in perfect sync with each other. But, when Sammy (cat in question) started, the canines on the right side of his mouth grew in later than the ones on the left side. I guess his baby teeth on that side took longer to molt. He ended up with regular-sized vertical canines on his left side. However, his right-upper canine is somewhat stunted and grew inwards towards his mouth, and his lower-right canine sticks out like a small tusk. It doesn't make him look ugly or anything; quite frankly, I think it makes him look cute in a peculiar way. He has no trouble eating food or biting things. But, I'm concerned about this, too. Could this cause problems for him later in life?

6 month cat - problems with adult teeth coming in.?
Our cat is about 6 months old.... I was just looking in his mouth, and it looks like his adult canines have come in, but his baby canines are still there too! It's almost like the 2 teeth are sharing the same 'hole' in his gums. I touched it, and the baby canine doesn't even seem loose! Should I give it some time and see if it falls out on its own, or is this something I should take him to the vet for ASAP... Oh and it's the same way on both sides of his mouth.

Kitten teeth?
i have a 6 mon. old kitten who has already lost his baby teeth(at least the 4 main canines). He was with me and did some thing and evidentially knocked a side(kinda towards the back) tooth out...or loose because he is fighting it, crunching, and bleeding, i am REALLY concerned about this and i cant take him to the vet, its 11 pm! is the side teeth suppose to come out or did it really get knocked out and in the morning take him to a vet and it supose to be in there perm.?

Hopefully it's the former.
If your cat appears OK otherwise, it can wait until the morning. If the tooth is gone by morning, then it was probably a loose baby tooth. If it's still dangling, take him to you veterinarian.

If nothing else, don't feel bad about waiting until tomorrow to take him in... if it was permanent tooth that came loose it probably is uncomfortable and hurts a little, but nothing that can't wait 8 more hours (besides, the car trip and the whole vet experience is way more scary for them then a loose tooth :-)

Baby Teeth??????
MY 8 month olds first teeth were the two bottom front teeth, B ut instead of the top central Incisors, the Canine (or cuspid) are growing in. On Both sides on the top of her mouth, (she looks like a little Vampire...LOL).Usually those dont come in until almost 2 years old. I have never seen this before, is this abnormal? Should I be concerned? Has anyone else went through this, Did the Front teeth come in? Should I be concerned?

Will i ever loose my baby teeth?
all my friends have lost their teeth and i still have all but two of my molers and both sets of canines. is it posible i will never loose them or could my mouth be to small. i have two teeth on the top that heven't grown in all the way and i lost them about a year and a half ago. the last time i lost a tooth was a year ago and it was a moler. my teeth are uneven and the top canines heve started to grow out wards towards the front. could some thing be wrong? my sister is 12 and has lost more teeth than me. i am 14.

Go to your dentist and sit with him with a mirror. Take some digital photos and have him show you what can and can not be done by drawing on the photos. Then you can discuss a plan that is proper and best for you. I've done this on people you broke teeth and needed a new smile line for the crowns to look like they were coming from the gums. im 16, and have been having problems with my gums for a while now. at first it was nothing big...then i noticed that one of my teeth were loose (the one right behind my canine)...it really freaked me out because i am all about having a pretty and healthy smile. i begged my parents to take me to the dentist and they called me a hypochondriac like they always do when i come to them asking for help. and im not the type to ask for serious help unless i feel like i really need it simply because i know that even if its a big issue my parents will make me feel horrible about it. well my mom went recently and got dental work done and so i begged her to take me because i was so worried i was gonna loose this tooth and have serious problems with the others...her response was "ill take you at the beginning of the year if youll just shut the hell up and leave me alone...ill give you my follow up visit, would that make you happy!?" i told her id be fine with that and so i waited...

Reply:I hope you get to dentist soon. The problem with your parents really might be financial. Dental insurance does not cover real dental work, only cleanings and sometimes fillings. Do you work? You are 16 right? Maybe you can save some money yourself and go. I don't mean to sound harsh, but if you don't get your teeth fixed now you will have real problems after the age of 35 and that will cost you thousands of dollars.

Reply:I hope you get to dentist soon. The problem with your parents really might be financial. Dental insurance does not cover real dental work, only cleanings and sometimes fillings. Do you work? You are 16 right? Maybe you can save some money yourself and go. I don't mean to sound harsh, but if you don't get your teeth fixed now you will have real problems after the age of 35 and that will cost you thousands of dollars.

I am pulling 3 teeth this week?
the 3 teeth are from the top 1 is the canine the other 2 are the the molars.i have oniy gone as 1 of my front teeth have cracked .they will be 3 pull this time then 2 more later and replaced with dentures.i am been given sedative tablet to be tahen 1 hour before i go.then the gum will be numbed and injection given he says it will be over in 10 minutes and i wont feel anything.now i like to belive him but i never had a experence of this way before as i had conscious sedation before.should i be worried and be expecting pain .did anyone have a sedative tablet and what way did they feel.did it help and were you aware of all what was going on.also be honest do you think i am mad having 3 out (not my idea dentist idea )

Reply:I'm an Oral surgery assistant and we pull 4 wisdom teeth out at a time. In my opinion I'd get them all done at once. You will get pain medication that will work for all 3 teeth. They all heal at one time so you only go through the pain once instead of 3 different times. As your dentist for some laughing gas that will also help

6 year old Jack Russell suddenly has a gap between her top front teeth & there's a cavity leading to her nose
I just noticed that my JR has a "split" between her top front teeth. Seems as though her teeth are shifting outward, her canines are angled more outward. There also seems to be a cavity leading upward to her nose. Could this be a cleft palate that is just appearing? She doesn't seem to be in any pain and still has an appetite. Any ideas? Has anyone ever seen this happen before?

Then again, they don't have to be given our diet. Their actual function is usually not all that different from the incisors. The function of the premolars varies with age. Problems with baby teeth, with no adults?
I'm not familiar with all the techinical terms/names for teeth, so bare with me.
My very first molar on my left side is loose. It's a baby tooth, there's no adult for it. Whenever I floss my teeth or eat something really hard and crunchy (granola bars) it feels looser and hurts a little. I'm 21, and it's been going on for some time now, slowly getting looser. I'm just wondering... when it does fall out, what are some options I have that aren't expensive (anything under 500$) to replace the lost tooth?
I also have one on my right side...the small tooth next to my two front teeth fell out when I was 12, but there was no adult for it, so when my canine fell out and the adult came in, it took the place of the small tooth, so now there's a space between my canine and my first molar, on the right side. The space is a bit smaller, 1/8" wide, so I don't know if they can put a tooth in. What would be my options for that space?

If you have a 2nd molar (the tooth behind the loose baby tooth), it is possible to do a bridge there to replace the eventually missing tooth. It's like a crown (cap), but you have 2 caps with a connected fake tooth in the center. It's permanently cemented into place and you dont take it out. The 2nd option would be an implant, which is probably also your BEST option, but they are pricey. So is the bridge. A 3rd option is braces to close *all* gaps. But unfortunately, there is no treatment option under $500. The best thing is to go in for a consult with your dentist. He can refer you to an orthodontist or a surgeon if you decide to do braces or implants. Good luck!
Most dental offices should be able to work with you set up a payment plan thru them, or apply for a type of loan or credit card specifically for dental treatment. Call around and ask about these payment options. No one should be turned away because they cant afford it!

My 7 month old yorkie has all of his adult teeth but three of his canines haven't fallen out yet - so he has doubles. Is this normal? Should he have lost them by now?

I had the same problem with my chihuahua. For some reason many smaller breed dogs do not lose their baby teeth on their own. Go to the vet and have them taken out. I'm sure that your dog will be a lot more comfortable.

I went in for a Microchip for my puppy (7 months old today, miniature pinshcer) and the vet looked at his mouth and found out that her baby teeth were still in and haven't fallen out. I was kind of pissed so to say (he looked in her mouth), but he was a good vet and if it wasn't for him she would of had 2 extra teeth. So I had them surgically remove the teeth yesterday morning and it was quite expensive based on where I live ($200).
But I'm happy she is definately eating better (before she was like chomping on the food and now she's not). Her energy level is back to normal today, and her mouth looks good.
So you might want to do that instead of waiting around. The vet told me that if I waited and put it off it would cause problems in the future. Good Luck.

Problems with whitening teeth with fillings?
have fillings in most my teeth, but no new ones lately. am to get 2 permanent crowns and started to whiten teeth 1st to have lighter color to match crowns with.dentist strongly recommended dentist-prepared, moulded strips, saying they're best for dental health and most efficient. is charging me 600 euros and it seems that he's using a kit ordered on line for 40 euros. i digress.started with the bottom teeth bleaching for 3 hours a day for about 14 days. now, top teeth. after first bout, it looked like a canine was vertically cracked that i didn't remember being cracked, but not totally sure. on 3rd evening upon putting on strip, i feel intense throbbing in one tooth(not the same side as crack) which subsides and then increases. i take off the strip within about half an hour and the pain subsides. french sites indicate one shouldnt whiten if cavities in teeth. does this mean filled cavities?throbbing reminds me of feeling of dying nerves. help! what to do?

Why do i grind my teeth in the sleep and how can i stop that?
i always dream asif i'm loosing my teeth. to be precise the canines. i dream as if they come loose and i can't stop myself ,but actually moving them more. like the same kind of pain that you feel when you loose your milk teeth. i pulled all my milk teeth myself when i was a kid. even though i'm not as stressed as used to be.

I don't know how true that is, but if you have something stressful in your life at the moment, that is probably the cause. If you can find a way to be at peace with it then it usually will help with that type of grinding.

Example: i have one patient who is getting stressed because at work his new boss is a real nasty peice of work he didn't make the connection but he had noticed the grinding for about the same amount of time that that guy had been working there.

What are the pros and cons of getting a partial in the canine position for a missing tooth?
If your talking about upper canines then canines are considered the strongest and longest(in terms of roots) of all the dentition...
apart from that canines are conisdered one of the most important teeth aesthetically.The reason for that is canines are present at the angle of mouth(corners of mouth) and are responsible for the bulk or prominance that a person has on this area of the face.
Technically speaking there are no obvious cons of getting partial in canine position but having said that it would be much better if you get a bridge rather than a partial denture there because that part of the dentition or face is clearly visible and having a partial denture would be a bit odd(although functionally speaking you shouldnt have any problem)...apart from that partials are removable and in this sense bridges have the advantage that they are fixed....
secondly,whatever prsothesis(partial or bridge) I will wear, I would have a good look at it in the mirror in dentists office so that it does not has any aesthetic disadvantage(it should look aesthetically pleasing)...
apart from that if finance would not be a big issue and If I have a good dentist then i would prefer implants...

The maxillary canine teeth play a very important role in the side to side movements of your jaw (we call these "lateral excursive" movements).
As a person slides his/her jaw to the left or right, the upper and lower canines on the left of right side, respectively, touch eachother, causing the upper and lower molars to disocclude (i.e. no longer touch). This is a protective mechanism for the teeth, the temporomandibular joint, and the muscles controlling the jaw. We refer to this phenomenon as "canine guidance". Thus, the maxillary canines must be able to sustain a hell of a lot of force. This makes sense, as they typically have the longest and most robust roots of any tooth in the human mouth.

apart from that canines are conisdered one of the most important teeth aesthetically.The reason for that is canines are present at the angle of mouth(corners of mouth) and are responsible for the bulk or prominance that a person has on this area of the face.
Technically speaking there are no obvious cons of getting partial in canine position but having said that it would be much better if you get a bridge rather than a partial denture there because that part of the dentition or face is clearly visible and having a partial denture would be a bit odd(although functionally speaking you shouldnt have any problem)...apart from that partials are removable and in this sense bridges have the advantage that they are fixed....
secondly,whatever prsothesis(partial or bridge) I will wear, I would have a good look at it in the mirror in dentists office so that it does not has any aesthetic disadvantage(it should look aesthetically pleasing)...
apart from that if finance would not be a big issue and If I have a good dentist then i would prefer implants...

Keeping Teeth White with Braces?
I've had my braces on for almost a year now, and will have them on for another year. I never really had sparkling white teeth before they were put on, but I was fine with that. The problem now though is that a couple teeth in specific (the right vampire fang and canine next to it) just are yellow, all the time, as are some of the teeth on the bottom of my mouth. And now, over all my mouth is starting to become a little yellower around where the braces are attached. I brush my teeth every morning and night, and usually try to brush my teeth after a meal if I can.. and I just tried pure baking soda, which I hear can be abrasive so i've only used it once.
Any suggestion?? I use ACT mouthwash because it says it promotes healthy tooth enamel, and my usual toothpaste is the arm%26amp;hammer baking soda one.... it's really frustrating because smiling has become somewhat of an issue. Is there a certain tooth brush I should use with braces to reach the tough spots?

Puppy teeth for Xlarge breeds?
And I mean X LARGE breeds, I'm a veritable expert on labs and goldens. I know it is also an individual thing but I'm trying to figure out about what age do xlarge breed puppies lose their teeth. Are they faster, slower, or the same? Do they lose teeth at about 4-6 months?
I know all of my puppies have lost their teeth in "order" (front incisors, canines, and then molars). This is my first xlarge breed pup and she's lost them out of order. Is this typical?

Braces? or just pull out the canine?
My daughter is 14 and she and I are trying to decide whether she should have braces. When she was about 7 one of her baby upper canines needed to come out as it was badly infected. The gap closed and there has been no room for her adult one to drop into. All her other teeth are straight and no problems with them, but this one canine is protruding well in front of the others and causing crowding in that area. The orthodontist has suggested either just take out the canine and leave it at that, or remove the next tooth further back and have braces to help the canine drop into place. He seemed to imply 'why go through the hassle of braces' whereas the dentist says - 'the canines are important cornerstones of the mouth and the look will be far better if she has braces'. She also says the front teeth are starting to lean towards the problem side. I'm spinning with the confusion of which to go for. Have just discovered this forum which seems so great and would love to hear other's thoughts.

The tiny teeth between the canines can be knocked out by a fall, hit in the face, or dental disease. It's not unusual, but in a 3 yr old cat it is worth a trip to the vet. The jawbone has a 'seam' right behind those teeth, and what knocked the teeth out may have been hard enough to crack the seam in the bone...

Kitten's canine cracked?
My kitten is about 4 months old and I believe still has his baby teeth. Anyways, he lost half of his left canine a while ago, not sure what happen but the pointy part jsut broke off about a one mm length. Anyways, today, the rest of the tooth is cracked in half and in two pieces and one of the piece is very loose from the gum. If this happen in a human, I'm sure I would be in a hell of a lot of pain. I put some Orajel on him, yes it's human medicine. He doesn't seem to be in a lot of pain or anything but do you think I should just pull out the VERY loose part of the canine? And uf yes, how, just pull it out or have him bite something, any advise. Again he doesn't seem to be in any pain but cats are very good at just ignoring pain.

Your cat is exactly the right age for teething. Cats usually have no problems with teething except that you may need to remove loose or broken teeth so the permanent teeth come in straight and healthy. When a cat looses a baby tooth there may be a small amount of blood (remember when you were a little kid and pulled your own baby teeth out) but otherwise it is usually an easy process. Thankfully kittens normally do not chew on everything in sight like puppies do in the teething process.

When i was young, i had a dentist that told me stuff when i went, then when i went back, he didnt do anything. IE. Give me a telling off for having decayed and squint teeth... saying "when this one comes out we will get u braces" then when it did come out he couldnt be bothered basically.
I grew up from the age of 9 to 25 only seeing a dentist if my life depends on it. (pain). I have had 2 teeth extracted (the molar beside each top canine) and without noticing it, i dont smile. I come accross as no sense of humour coz i dont like it... never have.

I dont see the point in dentures, they seem massive effort and the reason i have bad teeth to begin with is coz im lazy. I dont wanna be adjustin my teeth all the time looking like mrs doubtfire.
The tooth to the right of the one that is extracted has now split but during the last extracted 8 years ago and this new problem, i had a decayed tooth....

If you are in the UK and not working you can see your dentist for nothing. I know a lot on here are going to give you a hard time over this, and I feel for you myself. My sincere thoughts go out to you, ten fold!
I have to go to my dentist on the 30th. I have been 'dreading' this for about the last 3mths. It is a check up. We have to have them in the UK every six months. I only recently found out about this when I had to find another dentist because my other one had 'archived my folder' because I hadnt seen him since 1996 or something ridiculous like that. I hadnt realised that you have to go there, make an appointment every 6mths, take up his time and an appointment that someone who needed him could have had, and you have to go in the surgery, thumbs up, and say 'Alright mate, how ya doin..jus thought Id pop in and waste half an hour of your valuable time..what? no theres nothing wrong, I just wanted you to see me...' For pity's sake, if I did that to my doctor he'd lob me off his list ... what goes on!!!!
As a youngster I had a very bad experience at the dentist which I never ever got over.
I have a tooth at the top that is at its gum level like you have, but they 'crowned' it for me, and now its no problem at all. Admittedly that was after a dentist, who has since left the old surgery, had filled it over an absess and I ended up having root treatment...
I have problems with one at the moment. Its a wisdom tooth, its not long ago come through, (Im not at the usual age for wisdom teeth, Im a lot older {maybe Im thick and thats why they didnt come out til now lol}) Anyway, the dentist gave me an injection which didnt work, dug around and took most of my gum away, filled it on the gum not the tooth, now it snapped the filling and the tooth, its very sharp and is embedding itself into my face and cheek. And Im petrified of dentists but Iv have no intention of going near him til I have to on the 30th, but Im not expecting any sympathy either, but you people have to realise that just cos you arent scared or havent had 'bad experinces' you are lucky, so dont be shitty to us who have had it bad where the dental flossies are concerned.

Reply:well there's not really a cheap way about this issue- i would recommend veneers as a previous poster - i've seen them on the 10 years younger prgramme - they make a reallybig difference and will make you feel more confident. They may be expensive but to be honest they will sort out your confidence levels and make you smile - which is the most important thing.
I'm sure they have financial arrangment for you as well so no need to worry if you don't have the money.
Check out some cosmetic surgery sites or even submit your name into the 10 years younger programme (this might get you a free makeover!)!

I have to go to my dentist on the 30th. I have been 'dreading' this for about the last 3mths. It is a check up. We have to have them in the UK every six months. I only recently found out about this when I had to find another dentist because my other one had 'archived my folder' because I hadnt seen him since 1996 or something ridiculous like that. I hadnt realised that you have to go there, make an appointment every 6mths, take up his time and an appointment that someone who needed him could have had, and you have to go in the surgery, thumbs up, and say 'Alright mate, how ya doin..jus thought Id pop in and waste half an hour of your valuable time..what? no theres nothing wrong, I just wanted you to see me...' For pity's sake, if I did that to my doctor he'd lob me off his list ... what goes on!!!!
As a youngster I had a very bad experience at the dentist which I never ever got over.
I have a tooth at the top that is at its gum level like you have, but they 'crowned' it for me, and now its no problem at all. Admittedly that was after a dentist, who has since left the old surgery, had filled it over an absess and I ended up having root treatment...
I have problems with one at the moment. Its a wisdom tooth, its not long ago come through, (Im not at the usual age for wisdom teeth, Im a lot older {maybe Im thick and thats why they didnt come out til now lol}) Anyway, the dentist gave me an injection which didnt work, dug around and took most of my gum away, filled it on the gum not the tooth, now it snapped the filling and the tooth, its very sharp and is embedding itself into my face and cheek. And Im petrified of dentists but Iv have no intention of going near him til I have to on the 30th, but Im not expecting any sympathy either, but you people have to realise that just cos you arent scared or havent had 'bad experinces' you are lucky, so dont be shitty to us who have had it bad where the dental flossies are concerned.

Reply:Well, I would defiantly see a dentist about the decayed teeth and pain, but while you're there you should ask him about Lumineers. They're porcelain veneers that are so thin that you don't have to get you teeth ground down or anything. I'm not sure how expensive they are, but here's the website for more info.

Reply:well there's not really a cheap way about this issue- i would recommend veneers as a previous poster - i've seen them on the 10 years younger prgramme - they make a reallybig difference and will make you feel more confident. They may be expensive but to be honest they will sort out your confidence levels and make you smile - which is the most important thing.
I'm sure they have financial arrangment for you as well so no need to worry if you don't have the money.
Check out some cosmetic surgery sites or even submit your name into the 10 years younger programme (this might get you a free makeover!)!

I am very scared and it's a lot of money coming out of my wages, but it will sort out my confidence and I know I will be happier so I think it's money well spend.
Anyway you sound like you need a new dentist, and brush your teeth twice daily, floss and use inter dental brush and mouthwash everyday.

Reply:It depends how crooked they are, if they are quite bad you can get crowns. This means your existing canines will be filed down and a porcelain cap cemented over the filed tooth which will be shaped and coloured to give you a perfect smile.
If they are not too bad the front can be filed and veneers put on, these are slivers of porcelain affixed to the front of the tooth.
I have had the crowns option. It cost me £1900 privately and I have a perfect smile now! Mine were so expensive as they were so crooked I had to get 'post and crowns'. This means the tooth is filed down and the nerve taken out then the crown affixed with a post up through the central shaft of the tooth.
The down side is that it is uncomfortable getting so much work done and if you have a crown knocked out due to an accident (in the same way as a broken tooth), you need then to get a dental implant, which I have also had to do due to an accident. This cost another £2000.
The plus side of the crowns option is it is quick, relatively pain free, looks great and very realistic looking.
Find a very good dental surgeon (preferably a specialist in crowns and implants as regular dentists are not usually experienced enough to do a great job on front teeth crowns) get an evaluation and talk through all the pros and cons with the dental surgeon before making a decision.

Canine Dentistry To Root Canal or Not Root Canal?
My 3 year old Belgian finally had his root canal after over a year of xrays and waiting for a decision to be made. Now he has a stump of a tooth at the front upper canine.
I am extremely annoyed by this as I feel the work should have been done after the first xray in May 2006, at which point insurance company would have paid out. Now they won't as its over a year since initial diagnosis and dental vet has had our dog in three times before finally doing the work. The work cost a thousand pounds. So far the total seems to be in excess of 2 and a half thousand.
I did want the dental vet to do the work initially but he said it was not advisable because the tooth might still be alive. Turned out I was right all along and I wish he'd done what i'd asked.
Question is: Could he have root canalled the tooth on the strong suspicion that it needed it or did he have to wait for the further three xrays.
I am absolutely livid with damned conmen insurance company who won't pay out.

What's the best way to straighten seriously crooked teeth (besides metal braces if possible)?
I have three teeth on my right side (incisor, canine, first premolar) that are all very crooked. I had braces before and didnt wear a retainer and that was the result. The rest are ok. These teeth are pretty damn bad though, the first one (incisor) is pushed wayy back, the second one (canine) is pushed up and forward and the last one (first premolar) in pushed inward. Metal braces are probably the only way to go for this, but I figured I'd ask anyway. Anyone know of some possible methods that are less visible? I don't care about price or duration.

They are a little painful and a little embarassing to have as an adult, but the results will be WAY better than what you could get from Invisalign. The "clear" ceramic brackets are a little better than the old metal ones you probably had to sport as a kid. Find yourself a good orthodintist and they will take care of you. Be sure they are in fact a trained Orthodontist and not a dentist who does Orthodontics.
Reply:invisalign is only for minor.. i have a minor correction of needing one tooth to come down and i was stubborn and made my dentist do it instead of braces and it never came down because invisalign is not good for excursion (pulling down) so 4,000$ later.. i ended up getting braces on today... just get the braces because thats the quickest and best results... and wear your retainer! you can get ceramic (tooth colored) thats what i got and its not that bad... the wire is silver but it just looks like a retainer unless ur really close up

i'm 14 and i have baby teeth still coming in. i have had alot of my teeth pulled out, but now my canines are coming in. everytime i smile, you can see the canine coming in, but its not quite in yet. its kinda embarrassing. its been 2 months and its barely grown down. i want to start school with that toothe completly in, so i there a way to make it grow in faster, besides pushing down on it?

The only thing you can do is get a an Orthodontist to put a tiny chain on it and a bracket on the tooth under and gently pull it down. This will take time, but it will be a work in progress and no one will think you are uncool. In fact your fellow students may think it is rather cool and ask you about it. All you have to say is your tooth got stuck in the jaw and you needed like major surgery, but they are trying this first. I think people will think that rocks and ask the Ortho for a gold chain. That will look even better. No one will think less of you , in fact they may check it out and think it is as cool as a lip piercing. You never know. Since you can't change it overnight, make it a plus not a negative. Put a spin on it and you will find people thinking it is cool rather than childish and check you out. Think about, who else would have one and at your age, no one has piercings so this is almost as good. If you have any other questions, please ask.

Can a baby's first tooth even be a canine?
It usually isnt, but wiht my first son, his first tooth was the top left canine. Anything can happen, and its okay if it does. Just because the first tooth isnt the 'usual' doesnt mean it cant happen or it isnt normal.

Dog losing it's puppy teeth, kind of.....?
My puppy is losing his puppy teeth, however the top left puppy canine hasn't fallen out but has been bent over to lay flat on the roof of his mouth. The adult canine is growing in. He's a real squirmer and it's hard to get in his mouth but when I am able I can "hook" his baby tooth, but it doesn't move that easily. Will this tooth eventually fall out or will I need to get a vet involved? He's a rat terrier. Thanks for your help

What is the cheapest (but effective!) way to fix the gaps between my teeth?
I have a gap between my front teeth and crooked gapped canines. I haven't posed with an open-toothed smile in a photo since I was 8. I absolutely hate my teeth and begged my parents to fix it, but they always refused because of the costs. In high school my dentist said my mouth was in pretty poor condition due to my jaw alignment and that I would need full-on braces, not just a retainer for straightening. My parents said if I needed braces, I was on my own. I'm now a college student with absolutely no income to spare, and I don't have financial aid because my parents have too much income for me to be eligible. I support myself completely, and my insurance is pretty awful and won't cover a penny of any orthodontic work. However, it's been 14 years and I can't take my hideous smile any longer. Can anyone please recommend something for me? I don't care about my jaw anymore, all I want is straight teeth. What is the most affordable way to do this?Something that won't stain or break either?

Reply:well, there is a way to fix the spaces with out the cost of ortho or pricey veneers(which is a very nice option for you in the future). it is called bonding. my dentist does them and it runs about the price of a composite (white material) filling. they add a little bit to each side of the teeth involved with the spaces. you want to find a good dentist though, as you do not want to have one not really care about the cosmetic/proportion of your size and the size of the teeth when finished. i will tell you that sears and other chain dental centers my not be the best way to go. they try to get people in at low cleaning prices and their treatment cost are higher with sometimes lower quality work.
you said that you are in college...does your campus or a campus close to you have a dental college in it? there you could find students who need to get experience at minimal cost...same goes for orthodontic work if you would consider that.
as far as staining and breaking goes...there may be staining if you are a coffee/tea/wine/pop drinking..it is slow and develops over time..breaking sometimes is just being aware of what you are biting into. good bonding can last a long time. but there is nothing that replaces the natural tooth and even those can break!

Reply:Something as important as your teeth-don't compromise-what ever the insurance will pay try and pay the balance yourself. If you have a family dentist, they may be willing to place you on installments. Check it out-there are times when the cheapest way is not the answer.

Very common and something braces couldn't fix. Now I have composite put on them to cover the gap. It was cheap, $75 with insurance but sure it's under $100 or so. I don't have really good insurance. But it can stain over time. I'm a coffee addict and former smoker though. I've had mine for over 5 years. I just replaced it this year only because I wanted it to be shaped differently. It was still in good shape. Just be sure to keep it clean.
Another way is to ask if you can make monthly payments to your ortho. I paid $100 per month for a few years. I've heard friends who do $50 a month. So ask around. I had no insurance at the time. Also ask if they can give you a break if you pay cash. I've had dental work where they knock off a few $. Or if they have discounts for college students. My sister gets 10% off just cuz she asked. Or there are dental credit cards specially made for dental work. At low long term interest rates. Bank of america or citi cards offer them but shop around for the best rate. Or you can visit a dental college and ask about rates. Get the phone number online and call or walk in to ask. It's hard to do it online. We use to sit there all day until they had an opening, even when they said no more room. Sometimes someone doesn't show up. The work is really good. It does take longer but deep discount and they are really friendly. I've had extractions for free and other work for reallllly cheap. Or do a search for another dental insurance. Mines still is not so good but it covers Ortho for $1000. And I pay $18 a month. Go to dentalplans.com or do a search. Westerndental also has a dental plan. Or ask your dentist if they offer any. I have Lumineers on my two front teeth but it costs $1400 each, here in so California and that didn't include the cement. There are veneers, which I also have, porceline veneers, but cost me $500-$800. My insurance didnt' cover any of these since they were all cosmetic. Does ur school have a dental department? They give deep discounts. good luck! =)

The problem is that it is difficult to tell just from your description without seeing the problem and how big it is. You really won't get an accurate answer unless a good dentist examines you.
My recommendation for you to do is to see a good well known dentist in your area who has his name on the door. I would stay away from a clinic or a dental mill. I agree with the above poster that don't try to cut costs for this kind of thing. Pay more to see a good dentist you trust and then you can decide on the best option you can afford. If you try to cut costs too much, you will not like the result or pay more to fix it in the end.

. I think you should go to the dentist and get a cheap plastic mold made. It's cheap and VERY effective
Reply:well, there is a way to fix the spaces with out the cost of ortho or pricey veneers(which is a very nice option for you in the future). it is called bonding. my dentist does them and it runs about the price of a composite (white material) filling. they add a little bit to each side of the teeth involved with the spaces. you want to find a good dentist though, as you do not want to have one not really care about the cosmetic/proportion of your size and the size of the teeth when finished. i will tell you that sears and other chain dental centers my not be the best way to go. they try to get people in at low cleaning prices and their treatment cost are higher with sometimes lower quality work.
you said that you are in college...does your campus or a campus close to you have a dental college in it? there you could find students who need to get experience at minimal cost...same goes for orthodontic work if you would consider that.
as far as staining and breaking goes...there may be staining if you are a coffee/tea/wine/pop drinking..it is slow and develops over time..breaking sometimes is just being aware of what you are biting into. good bonding can last a long time. but there is nothing that replaces the natural tooth and even those can break!

Reply:Something as important as your teeth-don't compromise-what ever the insurance will pay try and pay the balance yourself. If you have a family dentist, they may be willing to place you on installments. Check it out-there are times when the cheapest way is not the answer.
